A night at a ryokan and soak in an onsen after dinner is an experience every traveller must have at least once.
RYOKAN
On a trip anywhere in the country, a stay at a ryokan (traditional Japanese Inn) is something many locals look forward to. They are especially ubiquitous in hot spring towns. These days ryokan come in different forms: some are decades - or even centuries-old traditional establishments, but modern hotel-like buidlings that retain the feeling of lodging at a traditional inn are also considered ryokan.
THE RYOKAN EXPERIENCE
Kaiseki Dinner:
Served either in a dining hall with other guests or in the privacy of your own room. Every ryokan has its speciality, usually feturing a premium local ingredient.
Yukata:
Sets of yukata (light kimono-like robes) can be found in your room. These are for guests to wear them to dinner in the hall.
Onsen:
The main bathing facility at a ryokan may be shared between all guests. If you want more privacy, some ryokan offer rooms with private baths.
